Down for the count.
Food poisoning and heat waves, hurray!
HELLO!
I’ve been in bed as much as physically possible over the past 48 hours with a mild case of food poisoning. The culprit? I hate to say it, but I believe it stems from my beloved Goop Kitchen. I’ve heard two other stories personally in the past year or two of people being taken down by GK. Will I go back to my staple once I recover? Time will tell…
Outside of that, we’ve been enjoying the heat wave as much as possible, swimming and lounging in our backyard. Roman is getting old enough that he can actually engage with the girls a little more, which is so sweet to see. I wish he didn’t move through the world walking like a black-out drunk man, wobbling and falling constantly, but c’est la vie.
This should become the title of my Substack, but 3 kids is no joke.
Moving on.
I love Donni. I really do. I have multiple pairs of pants, including the ones in the first photo in this note, that I wear constantly. Donni just released their first drop for their spring line and these are the pieces I’m coveting: The Drawstring Cargo Pant (also love the red), The Jersey Long Sleeve (I love anything in brown), and The Varied Rib Cardigan in Butter. I have the Jersey Simple Crop Pant and The Pointelle Simple Crop Pant and live in them both.
Pre-food poisoning, I made this lunch for Tommy and I as part of my ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ salad efforts. He earnestly said it was the best salad I’ve ever made. I used my secret weapon, this chopper, to chop up cucumbers and sweet peppers, along with broccoli sprouts, avocado, roast chicken and lots of dill. Add olive oil, lemon, flaky sea salt and pepper. Et voila.
My sister in law reminded me that I’d sent her this muffin recipe and she makes it for her kids once a week, which spurred me to make them again for our family. Excellent snack to have on hand.
Yesterday my stomach gave me a very good excuse to burn through a few episodes of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and this show somehow is able to maintain a drama level that hits every time. To top it off, while I was watching, I got a NY Times breaking news alert about Taylor’s season of The Bachelorette getting canceled (really, NY Times? That’s breaking news? I’ll take it but come on…). What a world!
Speaking of watching stuff, Tommy and I are on season 2 of Industry and I have to admit, I’m really enjoying it. It’s basically Euphoria in an office setting. What I will say is that once the producers got a real budget in season 2, the quality went way up, so push through the low budge vibes of season 1. I’m dedicated to getting to season 4 as efficiently as possible as I’ve seen trailers that include Jon Snow.
Many moons ago BeautyBio sent me these Depuffing and Brightening Eyes Gels and for whatever reason I just got around to using them this week. I pop ‘em on after I wash my face and toss them while making breakfast for the kids. I’ve gone without any makeup whatsoever this week due to my new skincare routine that’s really changed my life (not an exaggeration) and these gels make me look like I’m alive (I plan to write a full skincare breakdown in the near future).
I’m still recovering so that’s it for today.
Until next week!

I want those gingham pants so bad but am balking at the silk + dry cleaning requirements… my toddler is too destructive 😭
Omg Whitney! I had food poisoning this week too and know of another LA friend who had it. I got my mild case from a salad at Mixt in Santa Monica. Sounds like there might be some bad lettuce out there...yikes! Glad you're feeling better and always enjoy your posts!
